Grown-Up Exercise

Having competed in 4 triathlons and numerous small races in recent years, I have learned to love the exercise of running. Never in my wildest imagination would I have thought I would become one of "those people."

I think it comes from the necessity of having to keep up with three active youngsters and my thirty-something metabolism not being what it was, say when I was in college. Furthermore, the accountability of having the black-haired viking from up the street to train with and push me has been integral. So here I am, a running and exercise enthusiast.

Last night, I came late from a run to find my youngest (2.5) completing her bedtime routine. She looked so cuddly in her fuzzy pajamas, I was dying to rock her to sleep in the chair (I know--bad habit, but she is the baby after all) but alas my shirt was soaked. I leaned in and gave her a kiss.

"Daddy, out with Uncle Mike?" she queried.

"Yes, hon, Daddy ran with Uncle Mike, but I'm home now." I responded.

Noticing the sweat in my face and soaked t-shirt, my astute little observer, challenged my version of the facts.

"Daddy jump in puddles with Uncle Mike? Daddy jump in puddles?" she excitedly pursued what she thought must have really happened.

That sounds like an exercise I could really get into.

A Timely Word

"Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."

Hebrews 13:5

Uh-uh.

When the Abu-Gharib scandal broke, the word torture and abuse was bantered about in the press as liberally as a tennis ball between Roddick & Federer. While the events that unfolded were a blemish on the institutions of our military and the American people in general, the media had no misgivings about branding such acts as torture.

Such misuse, and misapplication has effectively tarnished our reputation internationally and has rendered any meaningful definition of torture, irrelevant. Furthermore, such widespread use of the word effictively denigrates those who have truly suffered the inhumanities of torture at the hands of their captors.

I argued then, that the press, and particularly the left-wing was misappropriating this term and today, I am again proved right. Today, we learn that Iraqi inmates are begging for American guards. Read every word. I wonder if this will make the nightly news? Front page of newspapers? You already know the answer don't you?

At nearly every turn the left-wing dispenses vitriolic propaganda that undermines our nation and our foreign policy. I hate to think what will happen if they ever come to power.

You can disagree if you like, but reality is difficult to dispute and being correct in this matter is something I can take no pleasure in it.

Looney Toons

Interesting week news wise. Karr - not charged. That sickens me, as I'd hoped the sicko who committed the crime would finally be brought to justice. Then there is the end of the Plame affair. Turns out, DESPITE all the claims to the contrary, that Sadaam was seeking yellow cake uranium.

Today, we have this report on Iran. Coming soon to a newspaper near you, round 3 in the GWOT! Of course the radical, fundamentalists on the left will ignore this. Iran with a Nuke? Not a threat! Iran with enriched uranium? The press is a tool of the Bushies, can't believe a word of it! It's just another part of their plan for world dominance by spreading the American Empire.

I'm reminded of a Looney Toons cartoon from my childhood. There was an ostrich and when he/she was scared or frightened, his/her head would promptly go into the sand.

Yeah. Ignoring reality works out so well. Looney Toons is right.
