Squirrel On Assignment

Yesterday, I felt like Ghunga-Dan (a.k.a., Captain Dan the News Man Rather). I had a hot tip from my inside sources. So, I took a little detour on the way home and walked past the Federal Courthouse downtown. I was looking for the Minnesota state political bird: The Liberal Loon. I found several of them at the MoveOn.org pro-filibuster rally. I got there right at the beginning of the rally. There were only about 60 people (I’m being generous with that number). Watching later on the news it looked like they may have had around one hundred (again, I’m generous). It was quite a strange site. The things I’ll do for my readers.

This is Squirrel reporting … courage.

The Pope is Catholic

Once again Neil Cavuto hits the nail on the head.

Habemus Papam!

Pope Benedict XVI.

In what I’m sure will not be a surprise to those who know me well, I would like to state for the record that I am not Catholic. So I am giving a strictly Protestant view of the new pope.

I think it was a good choice. As my Catholic friend said, “conservative and German, two good qualities.” I think, as many do, that it was a clear signal that the Catholic church has no intention of watering down its theology to appease the liberals within the church.

I did a quick scan through the channels the other night to see what some of the talking heads were saying about the new pope. I started at the top, which just happens to be MSNBC on our cable system. Keith Olbermann’s show was on and he was discussing the pope with some noted scholar. I have heard some complaints about Olbermann and his Countdown show, but I have never really watched it so I couldn’t comment. But, after watching about five or ten minutes of his coverage on the election of the pope, I feel I can say that he should return to ESPN. He sat there most of the time with a pained expression on his face and asked the most biased questions ever. “Do you think the cardinals really meant to pick such a conservative pope?” Yes, Keith, I do. “I’m by no means an expert on this, but I have studied it recently….” Meaning: I know absolutely nothing about religion, but I read a couple articles on the web and now feel qualified to speak to the issue. They basically kept coming back to the idea that because certain groups do not agree with church teaching, the church should change to accept these groups.

I ended my news scan on Fox News and the O’Reilly Factor. O’Reilly was talking about the media’s reaction to the new pope with former CBS reporter Liz Trotta. Bill thought that the media would very quickly start attacking Benedict. Liz said that it had already begun. She said that MSNBC was interviewing every “expert” they could find who was opposed to Pope Benedict. She was right. As I mentioned, just a minute earlier I was watching MSNBC and the coverage was definitely slanted.

Once again, the liberal media just doesn’t get it. Did they actually think that the new pope would greet the cheering crowds and say “you know all that moral stuff we have been saying for the past couple hundred years … just ignore that.” I would write more, but it would be pointless. So, I’ll just say that liberals do not understand Christianity and leave it at that.

Despite the media’s coverage, I must say that I have enjoyed watching the whole process. It has been very interesting. And, I am looking forward to watching Benedict XVI in action.
Just so you know, I decided to post this instead of the two postings that are sitting on a floppy disk amongst my work papers. They were humorous, but not that good. But, if you ever want to hear about my Jerry Springer white-trash moment at Walmart, just ask. It is a sad, but humorous commentary on our society.

Benedict

Less than 48 hours have transpired since the new Pope was elected, and already the coverage of the event grates me. The banality of it all! Today's edition of the Star Tribune, as well as countless other media outlets, has wasted no time in expressing there disappointment. It essentially amounts to the grieving cacophony of MSM's collective voice in electing a Catholic Pope. What did they expect? A protestant trans-gendered universalist who prays to cows? The narcissim of the left in expecting a faith based instituiton to adapt to their idealogical platform is sheer hubris. I am not catholic, but if I were I would probably want the most catholic of the cardinals to be the Pope. But since I am not catholic, what I think about catholic doctrine is of absolutely no relevance to the church hierarchy in determining the course of their church. And guess what? I am just fine with that. What a muslim thinks of my Christian faith has absolutely no bearing on the existence or manifestation of my faith, other than the implications for evangelism. Of course, the links on the right of this page offer more insightful commentary on this than you probably care to read in a day. At any rate, the battle for the soul rages on--there is only ONE hope.

Wah! Wah!

I just love it when people play such nonsensical games! I mean c'mon! There isn't enough evidence to actually file a case, but say what you want anyway. The mindless will lap it up as such rants fuel the fire of conspiracy theorists everywhere. Not to mention, this solidifies permanent victim status. Wouldn't it be refreshing to hear something like this:

"I have no excuse for such a defeat. We had one of the most vitriolic campaigns of modern politics. We had print and television media keenly focused on the problems of the administration. We had Michael Moore and others. We had a Nobel Laureate President casting aspersions. I can't believe I still lost!"

Of course it will never happen because the Distinguished Gentleman is an empty suit. Don't worry Senator. Just keep blaming the Swift Veterans for keeping you off message. Oh, but what was that message you wanted me to hear anyway?

Second hand news all but forgotten.

Who's The Redneck?

Tales From The Hood Part 3

Dateline Wednesday April 6th.
Time: 6:10pm

On this fine spring evening, myself and my eldest offspring were enroute to our place of worship for kid's clubs. I was traveling westbound on University Avenue when I noticed a pack of pre-teen/teenagers (13-14ish) standing near a cross street. Our eyes met and as they did, the young man (I was thinking punk) kicked a plastic car out into traffic. Unable to avoid the mess, I obliterated the plastic menace with my left front tire. Fortunately, no damage was done to my tire, although I didn't know this at the time. To say I was a little "hot under the collar" would be an understatement. I proceeded for 2 blocks whereby I turned off, heading north on a side street. I successfully manuevered my van into position. Heading of this band of ruffians.

The look on their collective faces was priceless as I approached them head on. They had no where to run. I got out of my van and read the ringleader the riot act. "You could've caused a flat or an accident! What were you thinking! I've half a mind to call the police!" Being quite angry, the incident attracted some neighborhood attention. I told the kid "your choice--the cops or your parents-you decide." He chose the latter and I instructed him that I would follow him home. He looked as if he would cry. After 1 block of riding in what can only be described as resembling a politician's parade, I relented. I got out of the van again at the stop sign and motioned the kid to come over, as he was about to head into the trailer park where he lived. I told him, that since no damage was done to the van, I'd let it go this time. He replied, "thank you sir! Thank you sir! I'll never do it again!" Having gained a measure of satisfaction, I bid him farewell and drove off.

As I proceeded to church I was feeling good that I had taught the ruffians a lesson. As I reflected however; I began to feel bad. After all, the kid seemed pretty sensitive, and while justified in being angry, my expression of it was not my finest moment. After all, I' pride myself in being reasoned and temperate. Furthermore, I've done a ton of stupid stuff as kid! In that moment, I realized that I had become a Blaine Redneck!

Lord have mercy!

If Bad Things Happen In Threes............

Schiavo, the Pope, and.........

Does anyone else find it interesting--that after the herculian battle to save Terri Schiavo failed, perhaps the world's staunchest defender of life, Pope John Paul II, passed away? It is almost symbolic of the battles that lie ahead.

Also interesting, is the media's attempt to influence the election of the next pope, before the cardinals are sequestered in the Sistine Chapel, free of media influence. Having been to the Vatican, I can assure you that this is a very nice place in which to be quarantined. Almost makes me wish I was a cardinal. Well, no not really. At any rate, see Hugh for the latest round up. This media attempt is noteworthy, considering the vociferous nature the left takes in misrepresenting the separation of church and state. Of course the idea is to reform the church into the cultural image they are comfortable with. A dangerous proposition if you ask me.

Lastly, great article (linked on Hugh this weekend), regarding the overshadowed aspects of the Schiavo case due to Popes passing. Give it a read.

Judicial Tyranny

Yesterday, at 9:05am, a once obscure woman named Terri, sighed her last breath--the final acceptance of the ignominious death afforded her by her loving husband and Judge Michael Greer. And so our descent into madness continues.

There are so many things wrong with this, it is difficult to know where to begin. Some have argued publicly, that Michael Schiavo has done the worlds greatest flip-flop. Specifically, in a 1992 malpractice suit, one that yielded a multi-million dollar judgement, it is alleged that Mr. Schiavo stated in deposition, that he had no knowledge of what Terri's wishes were, and as such the amount awarded was predicated on Terri having a life-span of fifty to fifty-five years. That's a lot of care she didn't receive! Armchair Pundits, among a swarm of other blogs, is working to find transcripts or witnesses to these 1992 proceedings.

Shortly (~1 year) after the suit was concluded, Mr. Schiavo, has "clear recollection" of Terri's wishes; therefore he quickly signs a DNR and directs caregivers to withold basic care, e.g., medicines to fight of infections (hint--read the affidavits). This is enough to raise the flag of caution, not to mention, Michael Schiavo's extramarital relationship with the woman who has born him two children as of this date. But circumstances such as these are of no import to the Honorable Judge Greer! Then of course there exists the matter of the experts. Namely, the University of Minnnesota neurologist, Dr. Ron Cranford, who examined Terri in 2001, and who happens to be an avid proponent/advocate for euthanasia. Is it any wonder millions are outraged? This is essentially murder! Sickening.

A regular reader sent me this link, which is well worth the read (HT. d-shire). Check it out.
